Fun Size Me 3D FAQ
3D works differently than standard photography
Basic Limitations
Any item smaller than approximately ½ inch in diameter may not print with all details.
Items such as small pieces of jewelry, rings, and strings will be visible but with less details.
Extended fingers are usually an exception to this rule when printed as large figurines. Thin objects may also not print well or might be very delicate.
Be aware some details will not be as crisp as in reality. Details of a particular pattern or a tattoo may not be reproduced clearly. We can review all that with you during your visit.
Exact colors/hues of your clothing and skin may not appear exactly as they do in reality, but they’ll come pretty close.
1. Recommended:
All kind of bright colors, large patterns and textures work the best. 3D formation works great at producing bright, well defined colors. Clearly defined bright colors will “pop” and look excellent. Having different color of clothing i.e. top bottom, shoes… different layers and patterns or a clothing with color variations in it works very well.
For family and group captures we recommend not wearing the exact same color of clothing to have each person dressed in a different shade of color.
2. Not recommend:
1. High heels 4" and up "Stiletto", will require us to make them thicker so they will print without breaking.
2. Large earrings, highly reflective materials such as patent leather, sequins and glitter, moire (moiré) and thin pinstripe pattern clothing are not recommended and may not print well. If wearing a tight small pattern, we may be required to select one color to make the clothing a solid color.
3. Shiny materials like all silk or highly polished leather across a large area.
4. Transparent materials like tulle or thin chiffon, extremely fine-structured fabrics across a large area.
5. Glasses with subtle frames, or rimless glasses will not work. We recommend not wearing it.
We will make every effort to capture and print what you are wearing, but if we are unable to due to the limitations of the equipment we will refund your money.
3. Makeup:
Eye-shadow does not work well for 3D capture. It’s best not to wear any.
Eyeliner: Avoid heavy, thick and dark colors. All other Makeup products such as Mascara, Brow, Lipstick, Foundation, Lashes, are perfectly fine.
4. What should I wear?
You only need to bring or wear the outfit you would like to be captured in. The scanning system analyzes surface details. The more variation it can see, the better the quality of the result. Our 3D photo booth doesn't like surfaces that are too transparent, too shiny, or lack structure over a large area.
5. How long does the 3D scan session take?
The capturing itself takes only a few seconds, we preview some of the captured images with you during your session.
6. Can I bring in my Accessories & Props to be captured with me?
Yes, you can. Some limitation plus restrictions and additional charges can apply.
7. How many people can you scan at once?
Ideally groups of no more than 3 but a maximum of up to 4 people depending on the pose.
8. How should I pose?
Generally, if you can hold your pose for about 3-4 seconds that's all it takes.
9. What are the limitations?
You will need to be at least 3ft (1m) tall and old enough to stand on your own to be captured by yourself. Kids can certainly stand with their guardians or be held in arm (Infants) without any problems.
Pets:
11. Can I bring in my pet to get Fun Sized?
Yes, we always welcome pets. Appointments are recommended unless we are set up at a pet friendly event. Pets are best captured with you and not alone. Pets generally count as people, unless they are small, less than 10lb and are held in arm, in that case an add-on fee will apply. Please review our Pet Waiver, you are agreeing to it when entering our booth with your pet. Pets scanned alone will have a different measuring, and cost than people, this is due to the form and geometry of their shape. Please consult with us if you plan on getting a 3D pet alone.
Pet Waiver
I accept responsibility for my Pet while in the 3D Photo booth and hereby release, hold harmless and will indemnify Fun Size Me 3D, their affiliated companies, employees, agents and representatives from any liability, damage, claim, or expense (“damages”) that might occur because of or in connection with my pet(s)’ visit to the 3D booth, including but not limited to any damages to people, other animals, property, merchandise or equipment. I accept full responsibility for any such damages and agree to monitor and control my pet(s) I certify that to the best of my knowledge, my pet(s) are free of disease and any aggressive or unusual behavior traits, and I have no reason to believe that my pet(s) will cause injury or damage or that I will not be able to control my pet(s) while visiting the Fun Size Me 3D booth.

21. Can I just get a 3D photo without buying a Fun Size?
Yes. You can get a 3D selfie, full body scan without buying a print. (Digital products)
22. Can I just send in a photo of me instead of visiting Fun Size Me 3D in person?
We are working on offering this option but note the result of this type of 3D design solely depends on your provided pictures. It would be best and most efficient if you can visit our 3D Photo booth to be captured directly in 3D/360. However, we understand you may not be able to do so or the person may no longer be available. In that case please contact us: contact@funsizeme3d.com for additional information on 2D to 3D conversion options that we may have in the future.
Product Care Instructions:
Your Fun Size Print portrait is a fragile item so please take good care of it and follow the care instructions.
How fragile are the 3D portraits?
We use the latest in 3D printing technique to build the Figurines, layer by layer.
The material is a composite of sandstone that is laid down in full color in 0.1mm layers and then fused during the 3D printing process. Each model takes about 8+ hours to print and inspected by our skilled 3D technician to produce the highest quality model possible. The figurines are hollowed where and when possible to keep the material cost manageable.
Care and maintenance for each model should be regarded similar to a porcelain ornament and used for decorative purposes only. They are not be used as a toy or given to underage children. The material is hard and brittle and will break if dropped. In order to keep your model in the best possible condition, to ensuring the color is preserved for a prolonged period of time, models should be kept in a warm, dry environment, prevent exposure to temperatures below freezing and direct sunlight, do not store the models on window ledges or shelves with direct sunlight.
Your Fun Size Me portrait is not waterproof. If you get water on them, it can cause the colors to bleed and can weaken the model.
We apply a protective coating which will add an extra layer of protection. This will make the models UV and H2O spill resistant.
What if my Fun Size Portrait arrives broken? (If delivery to door was selected)
Within 2 days of your figurine arriving, we need to be notified by phone and email contact@funsizeme3d.com
What is your Return/Refund policy?
We have a strict NO RETURN/Refund POLICY.
All of our products offered are custom made, which are created and designed fully based on individual customers thus have no market resell value, as a result, we will NOT ACCEPT the return or exchange of such items.
If you paid for shipping and your order was directly shipped to you broken, damaged during transport, please contact us within 3 days of receiving your products by emailing us at: contact@funsizeme3d.com. We’ll do our best to assist with correcting the problem.

3D SCANNING
Q: What is 3D scanning?
A: 3D scanning is the process of capturing the surface shape of an object, and storing that shape as a computer file.
Q: How does 3D scanning work?
A: Both of our scanners are similar to digital cameras. They shine a known pattern of light--one uses a line, the other uses flashing lights--on the object, and by measuring the distortion of the line or the reflection of the light with a camera, the scanner can figure out the shape of an object. Where digital cameras capture "pixels" on a flat surface, our scanners capture "points" in 3D space.
Q: What size of object can you scan?
A: We can scan objects from the size of a coin to the size of a car. Much larger than that, and area scanning becomes more practical. We don't do area scanning, but we have a business relationship with those who do, so if you have larger objects (buildings, structures, vessels...) you need scanned, we can connect you to the right people for the job.
Q: How long does the scanning process take?
A: That depends on the size and shape of the object. Larger objects generally take longer, and so do objects with a lot of intricate, interior surfaces. A 12 inch tall vase could be scanned in 30 minutes or so; a complex mechanical assembly may take several working days. Once the capturing process is complete, further time is required for processing the raw scan data into a finished STL model.
Q: Can I take a raw scan model and have it used for an injection mold?
A: The scanner will capure the smallest details and surface distortions down to the .00001mm so if you need a flat, smooth model with specific dimensions we would recommend creating a CAD surface model. Additional time is required to create a CAD perfect model. Usually about twice what it takes to scan, though this can vary. Any editing or alteration will also take additional time on top of that. We recommend making 3D prototypes to perfect your design, and working directly with any manufacturing company proir to injection molding due to the cost associated with the final molds. This may require a few different design changes and prints to get it ready for mass manufacturing, but you will save more by getting it correct before injection molding.
Q: What are the limits of 3D scanning?
A: The scanner can only capture what it can see. Internal structures that can't be seen from the outside aren't scannable. Surfaces that strongly absorb or reflect the scanner's light--hair, black or shiny surfaces, and mirrors--my require the application of a contrast spray before use. Objects must be still while scanning; pets and young children can be difficult to scan.
3D PRINTING
Q: What is 3D Printing?
A: A 3D printer is not unlike a robotic hot glue gun; plastic is melted and squirted through a nozzle, which is moved around on a robotic gantry to draw a shape. Shapes are drawn one on top of the other, building up layers until the printed object is complete.
Q: What are the advantages of 3D printing?
A: 3D printers can make things that are difficult or impossible to make in other ways, such as mechanical assemblies with moving parts trapped inside solid fixtures. They can make complex parts with very little effort and setup time compared to machining or injection molding.
Q: What are the disadvantages of 3D printing?
A: 3D printing is relatively slow. Large models can take hours or days to print. Printed objects are not as strong as those made from injection molding or machining, and some shapes with thin walls or unsupported overhangs can be difficult to print. Finally, 3D printing does not scale; mass production by 3D printing is not economical.
Q: How large can you print?
A: Our printer can print up to a cubic foot (306mm^3). Larger objects can be printed in pieces and assembled after the fact.
Q: What materials can you print?
A: Our standard material is ABS--a very common plastic found in car parts, home appliances, and children's toys. Lego building blocks are made from ABS. We can also print with certain other materials such as PLA, PETG, and Nylon as well, if your use case requires it.
Q: What colors can you print?
A: There are three answers to this question.
1. We stock white plastic by default, for which we charge by the gram.
2. We can order standard colors from our supplier’s catalogs for an additional fee, up to the retail cost per spool plus shipping.
3. If you require a custom color, one of our suppliers will produce plastic in any Pantone color, but one must buy the whole batch.
Q: How do you get a design into the 3D printer?
A: 3D printed objects all start as 3D model files in a computer. They can be made using sculpting or CAD software, or created using {3D scanning.} Once the model is created, it is rendered into a 3D mesh format called STL, which is then fed into a program called a slicer, which turns the model into the movement commands the 3D printer can understand. You can bring us an STL file ready to print, or we can help you create your 3D model.
Q: How much will it cost to print my object?
A: Cost depends on the time it takes to print, and the type and amount of plastic used. Larger objects take longer to print, and require more plastic. Depending on the shape, we may have to print removable support material, which further increases time and materials cost. We can help you optimize your design for 3D printing to reduce cost.
Q: How many copies of my object will you print? 10? 100? 100,000?
A: We're set up for one-off prototypes or small batches, not mass production. Depending on the size and nature of the object, we may set a limit as low as 5 or as high as 50--usually around the point where casting or injection molding becomes more economical. If you need to print large numbers of objects, you may wish to {buy your own printer.}
Q: I need it by tomorrow! Can you do it?
A: Probably not, but contact us anyway. 3D printing is fairly slow; a single object may take hours or days to print. We can probably print your object overnight if:
- It's a simple object the size of a soda can or smaller
- The design is printer-ready and requires no editing or alteration
- We can use our standard plastic
- You need one, maybe two objects
- You can pick up the object in person
And while not required, it really helps if we've worked with you before or printed one of these objects before. In general, it's best to start sooner, rather than later.
